Zeiss HFA Ⅱ 720i (Floppy Disk) | Pre-owned Visual Field Analyzer

In Stock

Pre-owned Zeiss HFA II 720i perimeter with 3.5″ floppy disk data storage for visual field testing, supports STATPAC, GPA, VFI, and legacy perimetry workflows.

Description

This Pre-owned Carl Zeiss HFA II 720i is in an excellent condition. The automated static perimeter designed for visual field testing in glaucoma and other optic nerve pathologies. With standard test patterns out to 90°, it uses a quiet projection system and supports data storage via 3.5″ floppy disks (model with floppy disk storage). Its compact ergonomic bowl and touch-interface simplify patient alignment. Features include STATPAC data analysis, aspheric bowl design, and standard test strategies (e.g., 30‑2, 24‑2). The device is suitable for low- to medium-volume practices needing trusted visual field diagnostics.

This Pre-owned Carl Zeiss HFA II 720i belongs to the HFA II-i family of automated perimeters tailored for reliable, precise visual field assessment. This model is particularly known for its quiet projection, modular data handling, and foundational features suited for glaucoma screening, diagnosis, and monitoring.

Core Functionality & Algorithm
The 720i uses a static perimetry projection system, meaning it presents stationary stimuli at varying intensities across the visual field. It supports standard test patterns like 30‑2, 24‑2, 10‑2, and custom patterns. The device includes STATPAC analysis to compare patient fields to age‑matched normative databases and flag significant deviations.
The system also supports visual field progression tracking via Guided Progression Analysis (GPA) and Visual Field Index (VFI) when licensed, enabling clinicians to quantify progression over time. The 720i may be upgraded (field‑service) to support many of the 740i features, though gaze tracking is not supported in the 720i.
Data Storage / Floppy Disk Module
The “Floppy Disk Storage Type” variant includes a 3.5" floppy disk drive for data export and storing patient exams on removable media. This is intended for legacy compatibility, though newer models often use USB or network archiving.
Note: Zeiss has issued a notice that HFA II-i floppy drive support reached its End of Guaranteed Support on March 1, 2018. After that date, service contracts could not be newly created specifically for floppy units.
User Interface & Ergonomics
The 720i features a touchscreen or control buttons for navigating test menus and patient data. An eye monitor helps with alignment and fixation. The bowl is aspherically shaped for optimal optics and comfortable positioning.
Operators can load test protocols, monitor reliability indices (e.g. fixation losses, false positives/negatives), and save or print results. The system supports external printers and network export via optional modules.

Clinical Use & Advantages
The 720i serves smaller ophthalmology practices or glaucoma specialists needing reliable baseline and follow-up visual field testing. Its simple interface and proven normative library make it a trusted workhorse. The ability to store test data via floppy disk allows legacy connectivity in clinics that maintain older IT infrastructure.
However, the limitation of floppy disk storage may pose integration issues with modern electronic medical records (EMR). Clinics may need converters or upgraded units to transfer data. The 720i does not support gaze tracking, which newer models offer for improved fixation monitoring.
Given the discontinued support for floppy drive units, users should ensure backups are maintained and consider migration to USB or network-based systems. The HFA 720i remains valuable for its tested algorithms and long-standing presence in the field.
